Scarborough Academy of Music was bursting at the seams this morning for the Tuesday Singers' rehearsal. News about the popularity of this singing group has spread far and wide and another two ladies arrived this morning hoping to join. It was a bit of a squeeze in Studio 1,  but that wasn't going to dampen the enthusiasm of this dedicated bunch of singers. The joy of their singing was evident from the sound emanating from the room.

The Tuesday Singers were formed in May. Sue had decided to provide the local people with an opportunity to get together and sing. There were many who described themselves as non-singers. This is not the case now. The sound they are making is terrific. Originally the rehearsal started at 11 am, but the desire to improve led to requests for extra "part-singing" rehearsals. Now the altos arrive at 10 am to be put through their paces, followed by the men who are chomping at the bit whilst awaiting their turn.

The success of this group is a result of people working together to discover the love of singing.  They have lots of fun,  a great choice of music and experience a real sense of achievement under the leadership of their inspirational musical director, Sue Hartley.  The rehearsal is followed by coffee and time to chat. There is a party atmosphere and feeling of camaraderie as everyone enjoys themselves..

Long may it continue.

The Tuesday Singers started off with three or four people in the first week. There are now twenty-six.

Unfortunately there is no room to accommodate any more.
